Day 22, Letter V

Vegetarianism. I am often asked- Why are you a vegetarian? Sometimes I choose to not even talk about it, I won’t push my lifestyle onto you and I don’t judge you for your diet- never will.  I feel very strongly about this subject, I have been a vegetarian for over 15 years.  I don’t believe that animals should have to die to satisfy an unnecessary dietary preference. That is my main reason. 

I believe in the scientific studies which show that cattle, pigs, chickens, and all warm-blooded animals can experience stress, pain and fear. It is my understanding that The Humane Methods of Slaughter Act (HMSA) mandates that livestock be stunned unconscious before slaughter to minimize suffering yet, birds such as chickens and turkey are exempted from this and let’s be honest here- TOO many slaughterhouses ignore the HMSA all together.  That is heartbreaking and I can’t support that.  Where do you get your protein?  I have had no issues with my vegetarian diet meeting protein requirements- believe it or not- plants ALSO contain protein…  Being a vegetarian is the best lifestyle choice that I have ever made.  

I will not judge others for their lifestyle choices,  I understand that others may not see eye to eye on this matter of diet.  I am SO proud that my husband became a vegetarian about 3 years ago .   Money talks, we are part of a movement of cruelty free foods- anyone is free to join us <3
