Day 19, Letter S

#atozchallenge

[Monday April 21st 2014]

Something to blog about that starts with the letter ‘S’ … This challenge is more difficult than I thought it would be.   When I think of the letter S…

S for Snakes

I think of snakes for the letter S actually.  Not a bad topic to blog about, although I am no expert- I have never had one but I LOVED to play with the garter snakes that I found when I was a kid

Snakes are easily my favorite of all creatures, I am fascinated with them.  The copperhead, rattlesnake, cottonmouth, and coral snake are the only dangerous snakes that live amongst us here in the US. I know too many people that are very afraid of snakes and have a lot of poor information about them.  Non-venomous snakes are harmless and will not bite you unless you surprise them or handle them wrong HOWEVER they can bite, as I have learned the hard way BUT this was because I had not learned to handle them properly yet. Non-venomous snakes are helpful to have around your yard, they fill a need for the natural order of things in, well nature 🙂  Think twice before killing a non-venomous snake, we should NEVER mess with nature or the food chain.

My personal favorite species of snake and THEE most photogenic creature in the world …one I would never want to pet is… the GREEN MAMBA.  These are shy and elusive creatures which are rarely seen. This snake mostly inhabits the coastal regions of southern East Africa.  My favorite creature in the world is one that I won’t likely even get to see in my life- kinda sad actually.

Some beauty is untouchable! #eyelove808

The mortality rate of untreated bites from a green mamba is unknown but is thought to be quite high.  This type of snake is a highly venomous species, capable of killing several humans with a single bite.  I find the beauty of this creature to be beyond any other.

Subtract Sundays from April, you then have 26 days–one day for each letter of the alphabet. Start beginning Tuesday April First 2014 with a topic themed on something with the letter A, then on April second another topic with the letter B as the theme, and so on until you finish on April thirtieth with the theme based on the letter Z. The theme of the day is the letter scheduled for that day on http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com
