Jay Bird

There are ten species of jays in North America.  Jays are loud birds who are known for their noise-making whenever their area is intruded upon.  I love spotting them and hearing them, it always reminds me of my brother who was nicknamed J-Bird

My brother passed away in 2007 from complications due to his Cerebral Palsy.   The term palsy refers to a disorder of movement.   Cerebral palsy is caused by damage to the motor control centers of the brain and usually occur during pregnancy / childbirth or shortly after birth.  My brother suffered a diaphragmatic hernia when he was born, the developing problems from this caused damage to his brain resulting in Cerebral Palsy.  He lived a life that I won’t ever fully understand. His situation has been a big factor in how I think about life- the good, the unknown, the brain, grief.  I watched his life leave our world in 2007,  I will never forget the feelings of that day.  I choose not to dwell on any negative feelings I have in life.  I am still unable to describe how it feels to lose someone close to you that is in a situation that you can’t understand, I am going let the overwhelming sadness about his life and his death that I cannot explain just fly away.

Every JayBird that flies by or that I hear reminds me of him and I feel comforted by nature even more.
