A TO Z Challenge -Day 1, Letter A

Day 1, Letter A

#atozchallenge

[Tuesday April 1st 2014]

I figure since this is the very first blog entry for the A to Z challenge of 2014 I will start with A for autism- since that is a very big part of what this blog is about and April is also Autism Awareness Month.

Autism is a condition that is present from early childhood characterized by difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract objects- this is the exact definition you’re giving when you Google the definition of autism.  This condition affects every family so differently, looking up a black and white definition really doesn’t explain it at all.  I still to this day have a hard time when people ask me- “What is autism?”  I deal with it with every day – I have for 11 years and can’t seem to answer that question ever in a way that I feel to be accurate.

My daughter (A FOR Alexis) was diagnosed with Autism at age 3.  If you scroll through my blog a bit you will learn all about our experiences with Alexis and how Autism has affected our lives.  Sometimes we struggle, I hope that you are able to see the positive ways that Alexis has impacted our family and helps us to learn all about her ‘world’.  Please take a moment to enjoy this video:

Subtract Sundays from April, you then have 26 days–one day for each letter of the alphabet.  Start beginning Tuesday April First 2014 with a topic themed on something with the letter A, then on April second another topic with the letter B as the theme, and so on until you finish on April thirtieth with the theme based on the letter Z.  The theme of the day is the letter scheduled for that day on http://www.a-to-zchallenge.com
